Green waste includes:

  • Vegetation and plant matter from household gardens, local authority parks and gardens and commercial landscaped gardens.
  • Kitchen wastes (food preparation waste and plate scrapings).

There are definite environmental benefits to be had from composting food and green waste. Peat bogs are rare and valuable wildlife habitats, and they are being destroyed to make cheap garden compost, which could be made at home for free.
