Mercury is a liquid at ordinary temperatures (room temperature). It is a freely flowing liquid, which does not wet objects placed in it, and has a silvery white colour and perfect metallic lustre; in very thin layers it transmits a bluish-violet light. It has an association with silver in that it is also known as Quicksilver.
